Where are the range facilities?

The rifle range, pistol range, shotgun range, archery range and fishing pond are all located on the site of the former Hamilton, MA landfill, of which the club leases a portion from the town.

How do I access the range?

Access to the gated property is gained by using an electronic key card.

When is the range open?

Accepted Answer

The Club itself is always open to members. Shooting hours are Monday through Saturday, 9am to 7pm (or dusk - whichever is earlier), and Sundays from 10am to 4pm. 
On certain holidays, such as Easter Sunday and Memorial Day, there is no shooting allowed. Occasionally there are events taking place on ranges that may require temporary closure. These dates can be found on our Club Calendar.

Are there club sponsored shoots?

Yes! Our Range officer and other members often schedule action shooting events specially designed to meet the requests of Club Members, these include Rifle Shoots, Steel Shoots, Zombie shoots, Women’s shoots, and Sunday morning Shotgun shoots just to name a few!

What types of firearms and ammunition are allowed?

The club does not typically limit what type of firearms and ammunition that can be used at the range. Automatic weapons usage is prohibited without express written permission from the HWRG Executive Board which in turn must coordinate with the Hamilton Police Department for such intended usage. Refer to our club By-Laws for more information and leave your bazookas at home. Full rules and regulations on all ranges and Fishing pond are explained fully upon orientation to the club. Most firearms and ammunition is allowed on the proper range, please contact us for specific questions.

Can I bring a guest to the range?

Yes, each member may bring a maximum of one guest at a time to the shooting ranges. Since shooting space is limited, the one-guest rule is necessary in fairness to our other members.

Are there toilet facilities at the range?

The club maintains portable toilets near the Pistol and Rifle ranges and the Shotgun range for your convenience.

When and where are the general membership meetings held?

General membership meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm at the American Legion, 37 School St, Hamilton, MA.

Do I need a sponsor to join the club?

Is the club affiliated with any sporting organizations?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the club supports the NRA, GOAL (Massachusetts Gun Owners Action League) and the Essex County Sportsmen’s League.

Does the club host any family social events?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the club sponsors many social events for members and their family’s. There is a always our Summer Cookout and Winter Holiday Dinner, also many fishing and other activities planned all year long!

Question 12

Does the club sponsor any scholarships?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the club does have an annual scholarship program. 
 • Either one $1,000 or two $500 scholarships will be awarded to students that complete a scholarship application and are chosen by the HWRG Scholarship Committee.

What are the rules for the Fishing Pond?

• Members and their guests are welcome to fish, a MA fishing license is not required.
 • Please watch the newsletter for our many Club held, Ice-Fishing and Youth Fishing Days!
 • Full rules and regulations on all ranges and Fishing pond are explained fully upon orientation to the club.
